If you want to go where the networking is hot – Twitter is the destination. It’s not just any kind of social networking website, it’s the place where people can go and have a quick chat about anything. That’s an excellent reason why it needs to be protected by spammers and other black hatters. But it’s kind of easy to for marketers to make mistakes that sinks them right at the very beginning. At Twitter you can immediately start working on a good business foundation, even though you won’t see swarms of traffic immediately. Sending out your affiliate link to all your followers is okay, but doing that every now and then will just make them lose trust in you. Twitter users are very much on the look-out for spam, and they will not trust you right away, either. So to get the best out of Twitter, you have to avoid the following mistakes and do your homework before taking any step.
So you’re probably wondering what those awful mistakes are, so let’s get to it.
If you’re just starting out with Twitter, don’t make the mistake of starting the marketing process right away. This not only applies to every person who is just starting out with Twitter but also to anybody who is starting their day with the service. The key to success is building relationships and positive connections with your audience. When you do this you will be developing a feeling of trust in others toward you. When you have taken the time to do this, then you’re able to mention marketing offers, etc. When you begin experiencing Twitter traffic from doing this, then you can do things such as create an email list for marketing, etc. But keep in mind that Twitter is a social site, so your followers are also there for those reasons. People follow you because they saw something they liked about you. You’ll be able to provide your market with what it wants after you identify that. If at all possible, find a nice balance between the tweets that are promotional in nature, and those that are not. Another mistake many Twitter marketers do is that they try to be overtly polite with their Twitter followers. You don’t have to be concerned about bothering people. If you tweet just once a day, your message will get lost in the thousands of tweets. With Twitter, you have to use an aggressive strategy and send frequent updates about what your followers care about. Twitter is a very busy service, so you have to send out a large number of tweets or people will forget about you. By consistently sending out messages, you can gradually become familiar to people and brand yourself.
Another mistake to avoid is not being open enough with your followers. Your prospect should know who you are right in their first interaction. Have a profile and photo that tells people about you. Be as open as you can. Share some of yourself in your tweets and don’t make them all about selling something; this will help your followers see you as a real person. All in all, Twitter marketing is a method that will take time to perfect. You’ll make your fair share of mistakes, but then so does everyone else – no worries. The mistakes we discussed above are very simple, but they can have adverse affect on your business. Online business reputation is very powerful, it’s doubly true with social sites such as Twitter. So when you make mistakes, just learn from them and move on.
Do you know what’s holding you back? Here’s an easy exercise to find out your limiting beliefs. First, write down things you want, these can be in the form of “I want to be …”, “I want to have…” or “I want to do…” where do can be any verb you desire. Use each form at least once; you’ll want to have several of these. Leave hefty space between them. Come on! Write them down first before you read any further.
OK, so are you with me with your notes? Good. Now read each one to yourself, and when you come to the end of the sentence say “but” and write down the first thing that pops into your mind. It doesn’t have to be something logical or a good reason, forget the qualifiers for excuses; nobody is looking over your shoulder.
If you did this properly, you should have something like this:
“I want to be rich”, or
“I want to loose weight”
and, it becomes:
“I want to be rich but I don’t know how to make money”
“I want to loose weight but I can’t control my urge to stuff myself with food”
So we’ve fished out the limiting beliefs:
- I don’t know how to make money
- I can’t control my urge to stuff myself with food
Most of the time, you’ll come up beliefs that are just beating on you. Stop it! Take control! Only you decide what your thoughts and beliefs are. Take these beliefs and change them into empowering beliefs. Believe in yourself, the more you do, the less you’ll have limiting chit chat in your head. The first step in personal development is finding out what’s holding you back. Then we’ll talk about how to change these negative beliefs with empowering ones in another post.
Until then, take care and be your best,
Keir

Twitter is a social networking platform that has now become the text messaging of the Internet. Here, people spread ideas, discuss news or just have plain fun in 140 characters or less. Twitter has a very simple interface, but at the same time it can be effectively used for many different purposes. If you have any products or services you are marketing online, Twitter can be a great resource. Twitter is being successfully used by many people to get targeted traffic and to make sales. If you want to use Twitter for your own marketing purposes, it’s best to know some facts about it first.
So keep the following suggestions in mind when you start your Twitter marketing campaigns.
The best single piece of advice for succeeding on Twitter is to be helpful.
While most people are spamming their followers with promotional links, you will be adding value. Twitter is a social network, and that means that people have come there to connect. So, all you have to do is treat your group like they are friends, even while you are educating them and doing promotions. Also, remember that you can’t do any hard selling . If you make recommendations then you must also disguise it in your value packed tweets. Be too aggressive and you will lose. Spammers have overwhelmed Twitter with their spammy links, it worked once upon a time but now it will only get you banned. If a tweet is unwelcome then it is spam. This is where helping people out comes into play, once you help someone, you have taken the first step to forming a connection. Also, if you promote a product that solves a person’s problem then there’s nothing wrong with making some money while helping them. By approaching indirectly you will have far more success than those taking a more direct approach. Don’t screw-up your opportunity to make big money with Twitter, come in with the knowledge that it is all about relationships, and you can have thousands of loyal followers. Marketing on Twitter doesn’t have to be difficult, unless you decide to focus on scammy methods that don’t work.
The main reason people fail at marketing with Twitter is that their approach has no personal component. In other words, Twitter users are human and they are always looking for someone to connect with on a personal level. You should let go of any ideas that you can blast out promotions to millions of users and sell your products that way. People on Twitter are looking to connect with others. The purpose of the service is to meet others in a friendly environment and get to know people better. If you want to reach people here, you have to think of building long term relationships. If you want people to consider your offers and click on your links, they have to know and trust you first.
It’s all about how you show yourself as a human, not a spam bot. If you treat your followers like individuals, you can separate yourself from all the mass marketers on Twitter. It’s better to hold off on promoting until people appreciate you for the useful, entertaining and friendly messages you send them. The more you give away to people, the more you’ll be able to promote.
Your followers will appreciate it and respond to you more if you take the time to get to know them. You can easily get a feel of who they are by viewing their profiles. In fact, take it a step further, visit the sites that they link to also. I can guarantee that most Twitter marketers don’t take the time to get to know their audience to the point where they know what their favorite music and foods are. Once you have a customer base of buyers, the sky is the limit.
Overall, Twitter marketing is one of the most effective tools there is when it comes to communicating with your customers as well as finding new prospects.
