Keeping your motivation high

One of the common issues when we’re working on our personal development plan is to keep ourselves motivated. While we’re working on defining our goals and building the plan, our motivation level is high. Then when we come to implementing the plan, reality kicks in and we start to hesitate. We are living in a period of instant gratification, everyone wants results now. This quick and easy approach to everything creates superficial judgment and we only add another negative item to our self talk list, lowering our self esteem. So how do we keep motivated and gets things done?

Affirmations for Self Talk

Affirmations are powerful and if you get them right, they are an invaluable tool for self improvement. Yet, if it were so easy then why don’t we all just affirm our dreams and realize them? Well, one of the reasons is that we are a bit more sophisticated and evolved than most of the personal development gurus would want you to think. Just because you repeat a positive phrase to yourself over and over does not mean you actually believe it.

Talking to Yourself with Affirmations

Affirmations are phrases you tell yourself or other people. An example of an affirmation, one that Tony Robbins loves by the way, is

This may sound picturesque and old fashioned, which is hardly surprising, as it comes from Dr.Émile Coué. He directed a clinic in France in the beginning of the 20th century. His main technique to treat thousands of patients was to repeat this affirmation 20 times, twice a day. Although he claims he never actually cured anyone, and they cured themselves, these cures certainly did happen. The starting point in personal development is you. Simple as it may sound, the only thing holding you back is you. Take a look at your beliefs; are they empowering you, or are they limiting you?

We develop our beliefs through experience in life and develop an inner talk that reenforces these beliefs. We can change our beliefs; one of the ways to use improve your internal dialogue with positive self talk.
